New study reveals that women are already regular mobile
internet surfers who want the high street in the palm of their hand.
miBuys survey highlights a strong appetite for retail promotions
and shows that women are keen to explore new mobile phone services.
London, 5th May 2010
A new survey into women’s views on the mobile internet, mobile
shopping and mobile marketing shows that women are already regular surfers
with 85 percent going online almost every day. And its not just about
on-the-go convenience as 94 percent of women are browsing the internet
at home, usually during peak viewing hours and despite the widespread
availability of more powerful internet devices.
Mobile phones clearly play a central role in the need to feel connected
with 86 percent of women using social networking sites and 93 percent
feeling that they would be lost without their mobile. These same users
often do things on the spur of the moment and 74 percent “agree”
or “strongly agree” that they treat themselves to things they
don’t need.
The survey also confirmed that when it comes to spending everyone is
on the look-out for a bargain and more than two thirds of women are now
interested in receiving these discounts via their mobile phone. Demand
is strongest for promotions on retail goods with 53 percent of women saying
that these would interest them the most. A further 21 percent were looking
for promotions on concerts and events; however “2-for-1” meals
and free lattes fail to excite with only 16 percent of women choosing
dining offers as a favourite.
Mark Bamber, CEO of miBuys commented: “This research sends a clear
message to advertisers that women are already engaged and eager to explore
new mobile services. It also supports our belief that mobile phones and
devices can already play a significant role in connecting retail brands
with their customers. It is perceived that women are only just embracing
mobile services, but the truth is they're already well beyond this point
and now want access to the entire high street through their phone".
